After 10 years in the offshore seismic operations end of the business, he entered the marketing and sales division of Veritas DGC in 1982. Shortly after this, Carl directed the company's entrance into the multi-client seismic market in the Gulf of Mexico with large 2D surveys in the eastern gulf, and orchestrated their first fully funded 3D multi-client dataset in 1989.
