In 2D inversion, the modelled resistivity is allowed to vary vertically and horizontally inline with the receivers, but it is made constant in the horizontal plane at 90° to the inline direction. This greatly reduces the processing time for a fast, yet robust, method of providing subsurface resistivity depth sections along 2D EM lines. The resultant resistivity model provides invaluable information on high-resistivity anomalies, an indicator of the presence of hydrocarbons.
