Roar Bekker has more than 20 years of international experience in the oil and gas industry. He earned his MSc in geophysics at the University of Oslo, Norway, and started his professional career as a seismic data processing geophysicist. He moved to Houston in 1987, and was subsequently assigned to Kuala Lumpur and later Singapore as sales manager, before being transferred back to Houston to manage marine seismic operations. He moved to London in 1997 to head up Geco-Prakla's data processing business, and he was subsequently relocated to Dubai as marketing manager. Following a two-year stint as marketing director for Schlumberger Oilfield Services in Scandinavia, he returned to London in 2004 as WesternGeco's regional manager for seismic activities. He then transferred back to Stavanger as VP of Industry affairs for Schlumberger Norway, before joining EMGS as chief operating officer in November 2007. He assumed his current position in May 2009.
